Grade 12 Events
SCHOOL DISTRICT NO. 46
THANKS THE COMMUNITY FOR SUPPORTING THE GRADS!
The Graduating Classes of Chatelech, Elphinstone and Pender Harbour Secondary Schools and the Sunshine Coast Alternative School rank seventh in the province in receiving the most funds donated per student in the annual BC Liquor Stores Dry Grad Fundraising Campaign 2012. This annual campaign generated $540,692 in the province – a 5% increase from last year! Sunshine Coast customers donated $9,981 towards Dry Grad activities for School District No. 46 students! The school district thanks the BC Liquor Stores for coordinating this annual campaign to assist Dry Grad activities for our youth.
The Sunshine Coast Grads of 2012 will be involved in the following activities:
-
The Sunshine Coast Alternative School Grad Celebration will be held on June 28th at the Sunshine Coast Golf & Country Club in Roberts Creek. The event includes lunch and a celebration with students, staff and family.
-
Chatelech Secondary School Grad activities will occur June 26th-27th. Students will leave the school on a school bus to the Sechelt Aquatic Centre / Seaside Centre for the whole night. The area will be fenced off and completely secure, chaperoned by administration and parents. Items have been rented for the night (sumo suits, DanceDance Revolution, karaoke, guitar hero, etc.) and food and beverages will be available. A full dinner will be served in the evening and the following morning a breakfast.
-
The Pender Harbour Secondary School Graduating Class of 2012 will have their Grad Banquet and Celebration on June 25th at Pender Harbour Secondary School.
-
Two Dry Grad Activities are planned for Elphinstone Secondary School Grads. The primary activity is on June 27th at the Gibsons & Area Community Centre. This is an all night Dry Grad with laser tag, casino, bull riding, dance, etc. The Second Dry Grad activity on May 11th-13th is a weekend trip up the Sechelt Inlet to Camp Malibu.
The Sunshine Coast RCMP and School District 46 do not endorse graduation parties where liquor is consumed. Dry Grad is intended to prove to our youth that celebrations are possible without the need for using substances that alter your experience.
School District 46 congratulates our Grads of 2012 and wishes them well as they continue with their education and training, and as they pursue their careers.
May 3, 2012 RECOGNITION OF BURSARY & SCHOLARSHIP DONORS EVENT
The school district values the community support of its youth and invites donors to an annual recognition event. Over 60 people were in attendance at the reception on May 3rd held at Chatelech Secondary School. Bursaries and Scholarships distributed each year to students number close to 300 with a value of approximately $250,000! The generosity of community members and organizations is greatly appreciated by our district graduates.
Student representatives from all secondary schools were present to welcome donors to the event and Sunshine Coast Alternative School students created and served delicious appetizers! Grade 12 student representative, Shannon Paul of the Sunshine Coast Alternative School and past Pender Harbour Secondary School graduate, Alexa Dornbierer, spoke to the audience about graduates appreciating donors' financial support to pursue post-secondary education and trades opportunities.

Elphinstone Secondary School Grad Class of 2012 held its annual Fall Funfest in honor of Trina & Hanna on September 14th. The event is to held to honor Trina and Hanna, two amazing students who died in a tragic car accident in the summer of 2006. The Fest is a coming together for our community, of all ages, to start the school year. The Grads show their ability to plan and get things done (and challenge the teachers in a softball game). The money raised each year supports great causes. This year, the funds generated go to the Elphi Athletics and to KidSport, who help our youth from Langdale to Egmont to participate in sports.
Following the softball game at Brother's Park, the excitement is at Elphinstone Secondary between the back field and the gym. A host of activities included: fortunetelling, golf, dunk tank, "pie a teacher," kissing booth and more. In addition there were many, many raffle draws.
Thanks to the many organizations and businesses in the community for making this a success. Huge kudos to Sarah Mani and the Elphi Grads 2012 Team for their efforts in coordinating this success event!

Bursary Reception: Grade 12 representatives annually attend a thank you reception at Chatelech Secondary School in May. Donors, community members and organizations are thanked for their support of our graduates.
