 Ever since 1915 Halfmoon Bay School has educated our children and been the center of our small community. We have grown in size, in experience and in meeting the challenges of an ever-changing world.
We have been in our present location on Northwood Road since 1989 when we moved from our small one room school on Trout Lake Road.
We take pride in the natural beauty of our idyllic location, surrounded by forests, hiking trails, parks and crown land filled with wildlife, native to our West coast environment.
We are officially designated a B.C. Community School and we have on-site day care, preschool, after school programs, teen nights, and special classes.
We have lots of opportunity for student leadership in our school and student council. We have wonderful community volunteers who help out in many ways in our school from reading with primary students to serving hot lunches. We also have a very supportive, active parent’s group, PAC.
We are proud of our school’s high academic standards and test scores on standardized test such as the FSA test administered in Grade 4 and 7 and in The NWEA on-line tests given twice a year in Grade 2-7.
We have outstanding Fine Arts programs with a new band program for Grade 6 and 7’s, a yearly talent show, school wide Christmas musicals, Shakespeare for kids, Video productions, and lots of other opportunities for drama. Halfmoon Bay is always well represented in the Sunshine Coast Arts Show at the Art Centre in Sechelt and have had many of our banners in the annual banner contest.
Sports is always a big part of our school year. We are very fortunate to have a popular Mountain biking club called Sprockids involving many volunteers from our community. We also have volleyball, basketball, floor hockey and track teams that compete in district meets.
Halfmoon Bay School is truly an exceptional learning place where we all feel safe, confident and accepted.
